LISANDRA

Rhys Hughes

I am writing this note in two languages, because Lisandra doesn't speak English at all and I really want her to read what I have written. My problem is that my Spanish isn't perfect, in fact it's very basic, and I worry that I might make a mistake.

But I can't let that deter me. It's important that I write to her, to my lovely lady, to my angel. I must let her know how wonderful she is, how beautiful, how sweet, how affectionate, how essential she is to my life.

Without her I don't think I could endure life. Lisandra, this message comes from my heart. I often try to tell you directly how I feel, to speak and gaze into your eyes at the same time, but the unfamiliar words freeze in my mouth and I remain silent. It is much better that I write the words instead of speaking them. That's what I am doing right now.

I know this is risky, my Spanish really is bad, and maybe there will be a misunderstanding at some point. But I have always believed that love is greater than anything.

Even if the words I use are wrong, she will know what I mean, my feelings will transcend all the mechanics of language.

Lisandra, my darling, I want to propose marriage to you. We should live together as man and wife. I want to start a family with you. I know that I can make you happy. I know that you will make me happy in return.

I have to go out to another business meeting. When I return later tonight, please give me your answer.
